Daily Photo Tour - It's Just a Bench

It's just a bench. Yes... it is. But it doesn't mean you can't take a picture of it. Right? I've been told by random strangers while shooting in Disneyland, "It's just a light." or "It's just a flower." And they're right, I'm sure it looks pretty awkward when I'm crouched down into a corner for 10 minutes having a private photo shoot with something that doesn't seem so appealing. But, at the same time, it isn't just a light, or a flower, or some bench with rain droplets on it. It's something that carries enough purpose for me to stop what I'm doing and capture it forever. There are a lot of these things, all over the place. You just have to look hard enough to find them.

AH! Kevin~ it is only "just a bench" for those too busy and distracted to stop and appreciate the craftsmanship, detail, and purpose. We all too quickly take for granted the details that make Disney- Disney. It is in those details that one separates Disney from all other parks. My husband and I had a favorite bench - one we sought out, literally spent hours sitting on, and above all, created memories we will have for a lifetime. I guarantee- when we are able to return to Disneyland, we will seek out that same bench- for a laugh, a treat, or just to watch the people. Thanks for the reminder of the joy in finding purpose in all we usually take for granted!

I'm going through the park in my mind trying to find this bench. Main Street? In front of the Matterhorn? Near the Haunted Mansion? Yes they all may look the same but each has a different view of the park. So each is special in their own way!

I agree, I just wish I had your eye, to see all those unseen things. Thanks for what you do.

This is exactly what I get from my husband when I go shooting at Disneyland. Sometimes "odd" things will catch my eye and I want to photograph them. I love your photos by the way, makes me excited to go to Disneyland very soon.

As one of my dear friends told me, "art is allowing people to see the world in a different way". And this photo is extremely successful at allowing another to appreciate a different point of view. The idea that a simpl bench that is normally overlooked has meaning, has a story, has beauty worthy of capturing on film. The way the light is reflecting off the raindrops and the iron fence behind the bench, the way you can practically feel the wetness of the rain while looking at this picture. The way you can feel the crispness of the air and smell the rain on the pavement. This is true beauty. Thank you for allowing me to see the world in a different way. :)

Think of the stories it could tell. Of the family outing's it has shared with those who have sat on it. Of the adventures, and even the tears, hopefully happily dried by the end of the sit. And all the joy and smiles felt as tired parents (and grandparents, aunts, uncles and the rest) sit and watch their charges go running off for a good time.
